| Techniques of Swedish Massage | Effleurage It includes long and sliding strokes in the area from the neck to the bottom of the spine. It can also be performed from the shoulders down to the fingers. When this technique is applied to the hands or legs, all strokes are made in the heart direction in order to stimulate lymph and blood flow. The main instruments are hands and the thumb pads of the masseur. Effleurage is performed with familiarization purpose.
Tapotement This technique of Swedish massage consists from a chain of energetic, intensified gestures in the form of pats or strokes. The aim of such actions is to enlarge the endurance of the patient.Tapotement can be performed with the verge of the hands, fists or with fingertips of the masseur. The purpose of it is to reduce stress and cramps in the muscle tissues.
Friction This technique is the most powerful among techniques of Swedish massage. It’s made with the help of fingertips or thumb pads, which perform penetrating circular or transversal movements. The special attention is given to areas near bones, such as spine area.
Vibration (Shaking) During this massage the masseur pushes with his or her hands on the limbs or back of the patient and makes shaking movements for a couple of seconds. This technique is effective for the patients with back pain.
