Is really chiropractic safe for the spine?
In the most cases - yes. With respect to the lumbar region of spine, here chiropractic made a record on safety in manual therapy. With the neck region there is another point of view.  There are cases known when as a result of manual therapy a patient got hernia of vertebral disk or neurological complications, including a paralysis. But similar incidents are extraordinarily rare as compared to the amount of the cured patients. However, there are people, which think, that manual therapy is certainly unsafe, for example: for patients with the breaks or inflammatory processes, women in the second half of pregnancy, and also for those patients, which have complications after the session of manual therapy. And, in addition, if you have such symptoms, as onychalgia of shooting type or numbness, you must visit   your practitioner and not chiropractor.

Isn’t chiropractics considered to be a debatable method?
All depends on a concrete specialist and partly on reputation of that medical establishment which you appealed to. But, no doubt, for most patients and physicians chiroptactics is one of leading directions of modern medicine. Yet, not so a long ago National medical association (НМА) proclaimed chiropractics by quackery, and was considered even unethical for a doctor to co-operate with the representatives of this direction. However in 1987 after a sensational trial on which chiropractors contested against НМА monopolizations by this organization of all medical activity, НМА was forced to step back. In our days many hospitals and health forces take chiropractors  in the staff. However some orthopedists and other representatives of "ordinary" medicine still think of them skeptically.

Why there are such bitter disputes about chiropractics?
Not only because chiropractors make serious competition to the "ordinary" surgeons and osteopaths in a battle for a patient. Scientific association in any way can not reconcile oneself to the original theories lying in basis of chiropractics.  There is thought, that many sickly states (not only pains in the back) have as a reason trauma of vertebrae, that their very small displacement   is removed by manual therapy. Such barely noticeable displacement invisible even at the x-ray photography of spine, in opinion of chiropractors, injures nervous counterfoils and bloods vessels, the same causing pain and other traumas. It can be the reason of traumas whatever: any traumas, falling, inherited factors habit, bag sleep, bad carriage, professional harmfulness, and stresses. Main, that infuriates classic orthopedists, is assertion, as though the   slipped disc can not be evident on a radiograph. "Once we do not see it, means, it is not present", - they talk. And then, whatever the supporters of this method talk, until now nobody represented the convincing scientific ground of manual therapy. Meantime chiropractors however continue to repeat, that the traumas of spine exist, and that they are the reason of various illnesses, and that manual therapy, undoubtedly, "works".
