Alternative medicine became very widespread nowadays. And one of the most important questions for a person who decided to use particular alternative therapy for improving his or her health is where to find a good alternative practitioner. An important component of any treatment is trust. A patient has to trust a doctor. That’s why it’s so important to have information from trustworthy sources. Such sources are:
1. Your doctors in charge of the case. You can ask your dentist or physician if they know some good homoeopathy, hydrotherapy or osteopathic practitioners in your area. They certainly have to know good professionals or even may work with them.
2. Ask your alliance, friends, associates and acquaintances. They may know some good practitioners, who treated them or about whom they heard good references.
3. Inquire at the local drug store or natural food market. Employees at such stores usually know a lot about alternative medicine practitioners in their region. Get as much information as possible from them.
4. There might be complementary or alternative medicine colleges or universities in your area. Faculties in such colleges or universities often combine part-time teaching and a practice. They are good and experienced practitioners.
5. Browse internet resources. Visit some professional and specialized websites. Each type of alternative therapy has an association with list of registered practitioners. You can search with your city and zip code criteria. After you chose some of them in your area you can ask your friends or your doctor if they know such practitioners and what can they say about them. A double-check will be appropriate.
6. You can also save money if you have full or part coverage for this kind of treatment in your insurance plan. Some insuring companies cover visits to a chiropractor. They will give you a list of practitioners they work with.
7. Look through local magazines and newspapers. They often contain specialized articles written by experienced health practitioners. These articles will help you to learn more about alternative treatment and results of such treatment. You cal also find useful lists of the best practitioners in your city in such magazines.
You should avoid those practitioners, who tell you to refuse your conventional treatment while he treats you with his therapy. Such advice can bi very harmful to your health. For example, if you are diabetic, you should never stop taking insulin.
Also you should check practitioner’s license or/and certificate. As example: Doctors of Chiropractic (DCs) are licensed by the Federation of Chiropractic Licensing Board. Homeopaths may have a Certificate in Classical Homeopathy (CCH). If they are medical doctors or osteopathic physicians they can have doctorate in homeotherapeutics (DHt) from the American Board of Homeotherapeutics.
